oh, i love the colors and the trees in theses photos. i sat down to edit this session with a sense of trepidation. when i showed up to our location, the domain, it was to find dogapalooza was going on. pop-up's and dogs everywhere. i put on my most confident face and said we can totally do this. and i'm in love with what we got.

there are kids that you see on a regular basis, who you don't know, but you've always noticed for whatever reason. perhaps they are gregarious, or they have that beautiful hair that no adult naturally has. whatever the reason, they stand out. i have always noticed these two. i have noticed how polite they are, and how good natured they are, and how they legitimately like their parents. which is saying a lot given their ages. there is a genuineness to this whole family that made my session with them effortless.

i know we've all experience this. you meet someone for the first time and after a few minutes you just know that given the right circumstances you and they could end up being friends for life. i l o v e feeling that connection with someone, especially if i'm photographing them. i literally could have hung out with them for hours after our session just talking and listening to this families amazing story.

oh the reality of the brutality of this summer was pretty much all we could thing about on this day. we met at 8:30 in the morning at mayfield park. there is more than enough shade so i really thought it'd be pleasant, it was 8:30 in the morning for crying out loud. it was horrible. but the "l" family did a fantastic job dealing with it and it show'd in their photos.

i love photographing parents with their grown up kids, and especially with their grand kids. both relationships are a blessing to me. i get a little window of what it will be like when my girls are grown and of the precious moments i'll get to have when they one day have babies of their own. granted all of that is a foggy groggy long way off, and i'm in no rush to get there. but, i'm excited to see what it will look like.

we were kicked out of the fenced in portion of mayfield park this day due to a wedding. i've never actually had that happen before, but was happy to oblige. i was not able to have the same courtesy granted me at my wedding reception. i'll give you one word, speedo. i don't think there's any need to elaborate. fortunately none of it ended up in any photos, phew. anyway, there is an amazingly textural fence just outside the grounds that i never would have discovered had i not been forced out of my comfort zone.

i'm in love with this family and these photos.

four generations

one of my favorite clients contacted me to photograph four generations of women in her family. i was totally stoked. i scouted out some locations and it was decided georgetown's town square would fit the bill. beautiful old architecture was the name of the game. i arrive in georgetown day, of only to find the whole downtown area blocked off. turns out it was the poppy festival. the streets were filled with booths and people. eep! stress....stress...stress.

it turned out fabulous, i even got a little shopping in. we ended up popping into a quaint bookstore then parked ourselves on a side street next to a nice old building. i love what we ended up with, curve balls and all.

i'm in love with the domain as a location. so many fantastic textures, patterns and variety of styles. i can't get enough of it. especially the amazing wall outside of anthropology. simple, graphic and modern. i get tingles just thinking about it.

the "m" family, little "k" in particular, was a shining star. i absolutely love this first shot. so sweet and loving. little "k" was a spitfire, incredibly curious and on the go. i was soo happy to be able to capture this moment, almost missed it.

i have a degree in graphic design, but frankly it never seemed natural to me. i love love love! to look at great design and get giddy with delight when i get to hold a beautifully designed piece of print material in my hands. i have a huge collection of inspiration pieces, but get completely overwhelmed when it comes to implementing them into my photography. also, the fact that i would constantly be changing and updating everything would drive me crazy. i'm already considering changing my logo once again. aaaggg! this would be logo number four i believe.

the term identical ends with the dna when it comes to emily and lauren. at three they have very distinct personalities...which is no doubt old news to their mom and dad. and, as i look over these photos i don't think you'd be able to guess that from them. but believe me when i say emily tackles life with abandon while lauren is much more thoughtful with her approach. i love these little girls and am excited to get to watch them grow up with my little nutter butter payton.

austin snow day

i mentioned the snow in my previous post. it really is a novel thing in austin. pretty much most of the state will get snow at some point in the winter months, but not our city. our terrain is a major reason for that, i think. anyway, i was driving through a shopping center when it started coming down and had to laugh. i felt like i was watching a hallmark commercial and strangers were about to start hugging in the parking lot. it was great to see the childlike joy on their faces.

my daughter was super excited too. she's two, almost three, so the perfect age to see her first snow. she played long enough to get the cutest pink nose.

jessica's one year session

i was really happy to get to have my second session with jessica, this time for her one year portraits. she's such a sweetie and was all smiles. she loved looking at the peacocks and i loved photographing her with her mommy. the weather was crazy beautiful in the 70's. we had snow three days later. it make my job so great when the weather cooperates.

i've never seen a peahen with her tail feathers open before. she was actually "courting" a male...or showing her son how to catch a lady himself, i'm not sure which. regardless, it was unexpected and kinda cool.

kristy and i used to work together. it was such a breath of fresh air the day i meat her. we share the same faith and i loved her sense of style. as soon as she asked me to photograph their new baby girl, lola, i knew i wanted to make sure to include the beautiful tattoo on kristy's arm.

i am so in love with the first three photos. they turned out exactly as i envisioned they would.

i was really excited when tara approached me about photographing her family while they were in austin for thanksgiving. i can't say how much i enjoyed getting to meet these folks. they were so easy to work with and made me laugh so much.

i really enjoy it when i get an opportunity to not only get to know my clients better, but also to meet extended members of their families as well. the grandparents and uncle joined in on this session. they were really great and i just love the relationship between a little boy and his grandpa. having only sisters and a just a daughter...at this point...it's a relationship i've not had many opportunities to observe. so sweet and precious.

sweet little jessica is the daughter of one of my hubby's co-workers. i really enjoyed getting to know the two of them on saturday afternoon. we had our session at mckinney roughs park out in bastrop. it's a really beautiful place. i would highly recommend it if you looking for a hiking adventure close to home. anyway, jessica was such a trooper. even though she was super tired she never cried. she made my job very easy and i am so happy with the way her photos turned out.

i really had a great time photographing this family. i love that they chose a nontraditional style and wore bright colors. we had to change the location at the last minute because i forgot dogs aren't welcome at mayfield park. so, we ended up at one of the parks in travis country that has a beautiful pond and lots of green space. i thought it was great and so did cloe the dog. who, by the way, was the best dog i've worked with to date.

saturday mornings session ended up being at an unexpected location, dunvegan keep. it's an amazing place located on the southern edge of shady hollow. the owner has spent the last 17 years turning his backyard into a medieval wonderland. now, if your like me and not quite into the whole renaissance experience, you might be having the same thoughts i did, it can be a little over the top at times. dunvegan keep was nothing of the kind. all the structures were beautifully placed among stone paths lined with native plants and flowers. it really is a beautiful place.

i met the morris family there and we had a fun time exploring, running and playing. it was right up their alley.

when holly approached me to photograph her "people" as she calls them, i was ecstatic. my first photo shoot with her oldest, grace. i couldn't wait to add meg and baby anna as well. to see these sweet girls together will melt your heart. their open affection with each other was soooo endearing. there were plenty of sis kisses and hugs that morning. i LOVED hanging out with them.

garden cupcakes

this was my second attempt at using my "hello cupcake" cookbook, the first being this one. i love to tackle projects like this once or twice a year. it requires a level or organization, which i've yet to master, to keep the kitchen from becoming a baking disaster. our kitchen has yet to recover. but, the results were fantastic. these cupcakes were for my friend mindys 30th birthday party. she loves her little veggie garden so i decided to pay tribute to it. something i didn't anticipate was the fact that carrying in cupcakes such as these makes for a great ice breaker. i'd met most of the people at the party before i even set them down on the table. i hate walking into a room filled with people i don't know. cupcakes make everyone so friendly.

erin invited me out to her parents property...where eventually she and her siblings will build their homes as well...for this shoot. the property is beautiful and the little guest house her parents have built is adorable. i love the idea of a family living in community like that.

this was my third photo shoot with joe and my second with kate. so, when erin contacted me to set this up i was delighted. it's so much fun to watch kids grow through my lense. sweet little hadassah and adorable jude, their cousins, were a wonderful addition to this session. i just think about how fun it's going to be for these four to grow up together, knowing each other almost as brother and sister. they are truely blessed to have such a close knit family.

my sweet friends turn 40

as i edited these photos it really made me start thinking about the friends in my life and how my definition of the word "friend" has changed over the years. as i think back on my high school friendships, i, ofcourse had my bff, who i spent every waking second with and who made my high school experience so memorable with her vivacious spirit. but after high school ended, that friendship quickly ended as well. for the longest time my heart was broken about that. was high school the only glue that held us together? i think probably so.

when my husband and i reconnected as friends...we knew each other in jr high...he fell into the roll of being my best friend so seamlessly that the transition from friend to love of my life happened almost without my realizing it. it struck me like a bolt of lightening the day i realized that i looked at him completely different. i couldn't even tell you the moment i fell in love with him. for those of you who know me best in this world, you know that that was the only way i was going to fall in love. having travis as my best friend has been the greatest relationship of my life. and while that will never change, after having my daughter i started to long for that one girlfriend who could fill the roll as my best gal pal.

as i became more involved with playgroups and MOPs, i looked at those women and wondered which one of them was going to fill that need in my heart. over the past two years i have come to realize that all of them have. best friend has become best friends. wendi, marilisa, jill, allison, candice, stacy, kristen, michelle, cathleen, jennifer, laura, janna, dina, the list goes on and on. and i can't forget my three sisters, jennifer, shawna and karen who are my dearest and sweetest friends of all. god has made me rich with friendships. my heart if full.

last weekend i got to hang out with this sweet little family. i know them from church but we've never had the opportunity to really get to know each other. this photo shoot provided an chance to remedy that. brian and anna welcomed me into their awesome austin bungalow where we got the following photos.

i was really excited when meg contacted me about setting up a session. it's so cool that my name is getting out there through other photo shoots and from my amazing friends...such as jill...who shared my info with meg.

we did this shoot at laguna gloria, which is one of my favs. i finally had the opportunity to shoot inside the villa, which was amazing as well as air conditioned...a must with the 100 degree heat wave that has settled into our area for the past...oh, i don't know...500 days. even so, we did manage to get some really great outdoor shots. you really can't go wrong in such a beautiful setting.

i had so much fun meeting noah and emalee. they are super sweet kiddos. we spent our time playing in the backyard, then they showed of their rooms and noah showed me all of his pirate legos. i'm was really excited to learn that emalee is going to the same school that my daughter payton will be starting at in the fall. yaaay! another little girl friend.

i really had so much fun photographing these two families, and the weekend they had planned to celebrate their time with each other, as well as the 4th of july, was going to be a blast. i wanted to somehow sneak along with them. but...i had my own festivities to get to, so bid them farewell with a little bit of a sigh.

maggies bridals

i am so excited to finally be able to post this session. the hard part about doing bridals is having to wait to share them. but here we are the day of the wedding and i can finally show maggies bridal portraits.

maggie is a very dear friend of mine. i've known her most of my adult life. we met in the college class at church. i loved her right from the start. many years later my husband and i thought it'd be a great idea to introduce her to another dear friend of ours, steve. they hit it off and now after 11 years, grad school finally finished for both, as well as a doctorate on maggies part, they are getting married. i get to enjoy being a guest at the wedding but will have my camera with me, of course. i'll post more on that later.

we celebrated fathers day by taking my husband out for breakfast at taco deli. this place is truely off the beaten path tucked down by the greenbelt on barton skyway...the mopac side. i've heard several of my friends raving about this place and finally got a chance to check it out one day after a run. i was hooked and though travis would LOVE this place too. we got there early sunday morning before church and had a very relaxing leasurly breakfast. even though it was forcasted to be a scortcher that day, the temperature was perfect. we really enjoyed sitting outside eating our tacos.

little gracie is the sweetest little girl. like most of us girls i'm sure she has her bad day's, but she's kept them well hidden. these photos were for a fathers day gift so i've had to keep them under wraps until today. and if you know me that's a hard thing to do.

this was such a fun shoot. laura's goal was to get a photo of ella in the bath surrounded by bubbles to hang up in their bathroom. i loved the idea and couldn't wait. it helped that ella is super adorable. i finally got to the sweet silly personality that laura's been telling me about. she's such a littel joy.

marley and dalaney were the last session from my MOPs group. so super cute and sweet. we had a great time running around the waterspouts at ladybird lake. i love sisters, having only sisters myself, it's such a privilege to capture the connection they share.

my beautiful sisters and i went to embellish for a relaxing pedicure on thursday evening. i love this place, all pink and girlie. they don't use the throne like chairs you see in the typical spa. instead they use big bowls full of pink water and you sit in comfy chairs, or if your lucky like i was, on the pink couch. i love this place.

mothers day

mothers day weekend my sisters, mom and i had our second annual mothers day brunch at the hyatt downtown. the food was so-so this year, which was a little disappointing, but the new decor was beautiful. i've always loved this hotel and am so glad they're proactive in keeping it a beautiful place to visit. i grabbed these shots of my daughter and nieces looking up into the atrium as we were leaving. i hadn't really felt like taking pictures that day and was really regretting lugging my heavy camera to what was supposed to be a relaxing morning. however, i was so glad when i saw the girls sitting on the couch that i had it.

this sweet boy and i share a birthday. i think it was touch and go there for a while, but he came april 30th. we're friends with his mom and dad so i was excited when i signed up to take them a meal that i'd also be taking my camera. darren and joel teach middle school so they are well equiped with the patience needed to be a parent. i've no doubt they are going to be rock stars.

this photo shoot came as the result of a referral from my hair stylist tara, whom i love. karen contacted me wanting to get photos of her two daughters, step daughter and granddaughter...as well as herself. they were such a gracious group of women. i have a hard time remembering names, two of these gal were victims of my memory. they kept telling me not to worry about it and finally with word association by the end of the session i had all the names down.

i love the relationships women have with each other within their families. this one was especially sweet. had i not know ahead of time i would never have guessed that there was a stepdaughter/sister in the group.

asher and adeline are really great kids. ashers energy allowed me to capture a wide range of emotion, which i love, and adeline's laid back personality allowed me to capture her sweetness. once again i had a hard time choosing just a few photos to post, so there's a lot to look at here.

these two sweeties belong to lorie, a member of my MOPs group. we sit at different tables, so i was looking forward to this shoot as an opportunity to get to know her a little better. emma and adam are great kids and got along so well during our hour together. this shoot took place in the courtyard of first evangelical free church. i love this space. it so serene. the fountain in the middle makes for some really colorful photos. it wasn't long before emma and adam were splashing around having a great time.

harrison + hadley

harrison and hadley belong to my sweet friend jill. i met them about a year ago at a playgroup. in all this time i don't think i've ever seen these two kiddos get upset with each other. unusual for siblings, especially brother and sister. while i think part of this is their nature, i believe a large part is jill and her husbands patient parenting skills. plus, jill is one of those truely positive people that are a rare jem these days. thanks guys for a fun satruday morning and for a great friendship.

Happy 33rd

this pasted thursday was my birthday. it was a great day. which is nice because a lot of my most recent birthdays have ended with a feeling of disappointment. but this year was different for two reasons. one, for the past year i thought i was 33. as it would turn out this was my 33rd birthday. so, in a sense i get a do over. i am so excited about that because this past year has been one of the more difficult of my life. which brings me to the second reason for the great day. at the end of last year i finally decided to deal with all the emotional garbage that having a baby can bring to the surface. i spent what felt like most of my "33rd' year angry and depressed. i learned through counseling and a bible study that fear was the driving force behind it all. a huge weight was lifted off my heart once i learned that. i still struggle with the fear at times, but it no longer rules my emotions. thus, allowing this to be one of the best birthdays i've had in a long time. having dinner at uchi was a huge help as well. it's one of the only foods that makes me truly happy, that and double chocolate brownies baked by my sweet hubby.
